Thailand is one of the most popular destinations for backpackers. Many come from all over the world, carrying their entire luggage in a large rucksack and travelling from hostel to hostel in an attempt to see as much of Thailand as possible. This can certainly be a great way to experience this destination, but here are just a few top tips to help you get the most out of your trip.

Top Tips for BackpackersFirstly, you should book at least the first place which you plan on staying in, and research other options for later in your trip. Whilst you may want to play much of your trip by ear, it can be a good idea to know where you will be spending your first night, as you may find yourself arriving late.If you familiarise yourself with accommodation options, you’ll soon be able to find out which places are likely to offer free Wifi internet so you can be in contact with your friends, and which are likely to provide little more than a bed and a communal shower. You will also get a better idea of the price range by doing your research, which will allow you to better plan your budget for the entire trip.

Remember that the whole point of backpacking is to travel light. If you want to move from place to place fairly frequently, then you won’t want your backpack to become a burden. Only take what you really need, and avoid packing too many heavy items like jeans and shampoo. You may be able to purchase many of these things whilst you are in Thailand.

Lastly, it is important to remember to stay safe. Organise comprehensive travel insurance before you leave, and take small padlocks with you to put on your bag. You may also want to think about hiring the safeboxes which some accommodation may be able to offer.
